Daniel B. Yarosh, PhD, Molecular Biologist and CEO, Joins the Xeroderma Pigmentosum Society's Scientific Advisory Board

FREEPORT, N.Y., February 2006 -- AGI Dermatics, a leading bio-pharmaceutical company specializing in photobiology and DNA repair technology, is proud to announce that its president and CEO, Daniel B. Yarosh, PhD, has joined the Xeroderma Pigmentosum Society Scientific Advisory Board.

The Xeroderma Pigmentosum Society, now in its 11th year, promotes medical research in the treatment and cure of Xeroderma pigmentosum (XP). XP is a rare genetic disease whose patients have a defect in DNA repair and thus are hypersensitive to the sun, resulting in elevated rates of skin cancer. The XP Society has designated and distributed over $400,000 to research projects aimed at finding a cure, and provides an online support group for patients, doctors, and caregivers. In addition, the XP Society runs Camp Sundown, a year-round safe haven for patients with UV-sensitive skin, located in Claverack, NY.

As an acclaimed molecular biologist who has devoted the past 20 years to studying the effects of sun on DNA and skin, Dr. Yarosh will serve to expand the XP Society Scientific Board's expertise to include the very best in care, diagnostics, and a state-of-the-art understanding of UV knowledge and science.

In addition, Dr. Yarosh is the inventor of Dimericine®, the first therapeutic DNA repair enzyme that reduces the incidence of pre-cancers and basal cell carcinoma. Dimericine is currently in clinical testing for FDA approval as a topical prescription drug. AGI Dermatics has proposed to the FDA that it provide Dimericine free of charge on a compassionate-use basis to patients suffering from XP.

In recognition of his research in DNA repair and XP, Dr. Yarosh received the coveted Finsen Award in 2004, presented by the International Union of Photobiology Societies.

Dr. Yarosh is also a member of the American Academy of Dermatology, the Photomedicine Society, and the American Society for Photobiology, as well as other scientific organizations, and has been an invited speaker at dozens of international scientific meetings. Under his leadership, AGI Dermatics has produced over 100 publications and a portfolio of more than 24 patents worldwide.

Other members of the XP Society's elite scientific advisory team include the photobiologist James E. Cleaver, PhD, who discovered the link between XP and DNA repair in 1969, and has continued to lead research in the field; and W. Clark Lambert, MD, PhD, a pathologist and expert in skin cancer and DNA repair deficiency syndromes.
